The Venezuelan opposition and its fight for democracy
Opposition leader Juan Pablo Guanipa affirmed that Venezuela is in a “transition process” towards a democratic system, although he warned that Delcy Rodríguez's government is trying to cling to power through negotiations with the United States. “They do not assume that they are a minority, they do not assume that they lost popular support,” Guanipa expressed on the Nuestra América program, on Radio Martí. Guanipa insisted on the need to move towards free elections in the country, highlighting that they must be held “as soon as possible.” To this end, he proposed a series of conditions that include the release of political prisoners, the return of exiles, the review of the electoral registry, the creation of a new National Electoral Council and the authorization of opposition leaders.
